The latest Telugu movie, Wife Off, has been released directly on the budding OTT platform ETV Win. Starring Divya Sree and Abhinav Manikanta in the lead roles, the film arrived today on the platform. Let’s dive into the review to see how it fares.

Story:

Avani (Divya Sree), an aspiring actress, falls in love with a short film director, Abhi (Abhinav Manikanta). However, circumstances force her to marry her cousin (Nikhil Gajula)”. Unfortunately, her husband turns out to be abusive, and Avani is subjected to his torture. One day, her husband is found dead, allegedly by suicide. Clueless and desperate, Avani seeks Abhi’s help. What exactly happened in the house? Was Avani a prostitute in the past? Is she responsible for her husband’s death? Watch the movie to uncover the answers.

Plus Points:

Actress Divya Sree delivers a satisfactory performance as a caring wife who tries her best to navigate a troubled marriage. She fits the role well.

Abhinav Manikanta handles his dual-shaded character neatly. His character arc is well-written, and he does justice to the role.

Nikhil Gajula is decent as the neglectful and abusive husband, while Sai Swetha does an okay job in her limited role.

Minus Points:

The story of Wife Off is simple. While the director attempts to elevate it with a decent screenplay, the execution falls short, especially for a thriller that demands a gripping narrative.

The central theme has been explored in many films before. A fresh treatment or better storytelling could have made it more engaging. The attempt to divide the story into three chapters to maintain suspense is interesting, but the lack of tight writing fails to keep the audience hooked.

Due to its mediocre production values and sound design, the film often feels more like a YouTube short film than a full-fledged movie.

The climax is underwhelming, and several scenes could have been developed better to create a lasting impact.

Technical Aspects:

The director succeeds in creating suspense to some extent but struggles to sustain it throughout the film. The screenplay is neat but lacks the intensity needed for a thriller.

The sound design is subpar, which diminishes the cinematic experience. Editing could have been much sharper, as the film sometimes feels unnecessarily stretched. While the cinematography is decent, it doesn’t elevate the film significantly. The production values are average.

Verdict:

On the whole, Wife Off is a thriller that disappoints big time. While Divya Sree and Abhinav Manikanta deliver fine performances, the lack of engaging storytelling and substandard technical aspects make it a forgettable watch. It’s better to skip this one and explore other entertainment options for the weekend.
