Lust Stories is the bold anthology film series that gained popularity on Netflix. Now, the latest installment from this franchise, Lust Stories 3, has started streaming. Let’s see how it is.
Story:
Just like the previous installments, Lust Stories 3 is also an anthology comprising four different stories. The film attempts to explore love, obsession, the ups and downs of marriage, and the complexities of marital life in modern society from different perspectives. Each story revolves around different characters, their personal lives, sexual desires, and the consequences of the decisions they make.
Plus Points:
All the actors in the lead roles have done complete justice to their respective characters. They handle the emotional and bold scenes naturally without crossing the line. Konkona Sen Sharma, Radhika Apte, Siddharth, and Aditi Rao Hydari are completely immersed in their roles and deliver good performances.
The stories directed by Shakun Batra and Vikramaditya Motwane work well in terms of concept and emotional depth. The production design, cinematography, and background score complement the mood of each story and make an impression.
The film focusing more on the characters’ psychological conflicts rather than merely relying on bold scenes works in its favour. The way it explores human psychology is particularly impressive.
Minus Points:
Although two of the four stories manage to impress, the other two fail to live up to expectations. These stories move at a very slow pace and test the patience levels.
The endings of a few stories are also not very impactful and feel like they were wrapped up in a hurry. Compared to the previous installments, some scenes lack the required drama, making it difficult for the audience to fully connect with the characters.
Some scenes also remind us of the earlier anthologies, making the season feel less fresh and innovative.
Technical Aspects:
Although the points chosen by the directors for this anthology are good, they don’t completely succeed in presenting them effectively on screen. The screenplay feels flat at certain places and moves at a very slow pace. The editing could have been better as well. The cinematography looks rich and impressive. The background score suits the mood of the stories very well. The production values are appealing. The Telugu dubbing is decent.
Verdict:
Overall, Lust Stories 3 manages to work to an extent as a bold anthology drama. The bold and emotional concepts, performances, and production values are its major strengths. However, weak narratives and dragged-out sequences in some of the stories are disappointing. Hence it is suggested to watch Lust Stories 3 with expectations in check.
