K Raghavendra Rao, one of the most successful Telugu film directors of all time, is celebrating his 71st birthday today. He has been directing films since 1970s and till date, he has directed more than 100 films. Films like Adavi Ramudu and Driver Ramudu, which released in late 70s, established him as a commercial filmmaker and in the 80s, he went on to direct several films in Hindi as well. Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari was a major turning point in his career and till mid 90s, he directed several blockbuster films like Alludu Garu, Coolie No 1, Gharana Mogudu, Sundarakanda, Allari Mogudu and Allari Priyudu.
He has been particularly influential in bringing out sensuality from his heroines and over the years, he has proved that nobody can match the way he shoots the songs. With films like Annamayya, Sri Ramadasu and Shirdi Sai, he has proved that he can handle devotional films with great ease. His next film is Intinta Annamayya and it narrates a story of how Annamayya’s songs are being used in contemporary society. Revanth, Ananya and Sanam Shetty have played the lead roles in this film and except for one song, Raghavendra Rao has choreographed all other songs in the film. The film is all set to release on May 31.
