Madhavan, Bipasha Basu, Milind Soman and Omi Vaidya play the lead roles in this romantic comedy entertainer. Directed by Ashwini Chaudhary, the movie has been produced by Prasar Visions Pvt Ltd. The movie released today, so let us see how the film is.

Story :

Sid ( Madhavan) and Sonali (Bipasha) are divorce facilitators. In other words, they provide consulting services to couples who are looking to separate. They are aided in their efforts by Nano ( Omi Vaidya )and together, they run a successful service. They are approached by Ira, who is the wife of Marc ( Milind Soman ), for their services and this takes Sid and Sonali on a trip to Greece. They discover that Marc is having a relationship with Maggi ( Dipannita ). Curiously, instead of facilitating a break up, Sid and Sonali decide to patch up the relationship between Marc and Ira. During this process, Sonali discovers that Sid has his own selfish motives behind the decision to patch up the relationship between Marc and Ira. What are those motives? Why do Marc and Ira have issues? And will Sid and Sonali succeed in their mission? That forms the rest of the story.

Plus Points :

Madhavan is an extremely talented actor and he does a superb job as Sid. He is a major asset to the movie and there is delightful ease in his comic timing. Bipasha looks good and performs well. Milind Soman looks handsome as always and he is ok as Marc. Omi Vaidya and Dipannita Sharma are just about ok in the roles allotted to them.

The first half moves along at a decent pace and there are some funny moments courtesy of Madhavan and Omi Vaidya. The film makes good use of the natural beauty of Greece and the visuals are stunning during that sequence. The twist in the second half is good. The hit song ‘Kunwara’ has been shot well. The lovemaking scenes and kiss sequence will work to a certain extent in small towns.

Minus Points :

The movie becomes extremely boring at times and narration drops down to a snail’s pace. Screenplay is poor and there are many unbelievably foolish scenes. Attempts at humour are also not always successful and some of the ‘comedy scenes’ actually are irritating.

It is hard for the audience to sympathize with Sid and Marc and the problems they are facing. There are some overly melodramatic moments in the second half which could have been avoided. Some of the scenes are extremely cliched and will remind the audience of famous Bollywood romantic comedies of the 90’s . The movie turns extremely predictable and monotonous as it inches towards a very unnecessarily protracted climax.

Technical Aspects :

Cinematography is alright. While the visuals in Greece were captured beautifully, lighting was poor in many other scenes. Dialogues are just about ok. Editing could have been better. Background score is ok and music is average, except for one or two songs. The director should have taken better care of screenplay and narration in the second half.

Verdict :

Jodi Breakers is a very different kind of romantic comedy in concept. But it falters due to a poor screenplay, predictable narration and slow pace. Some good performances from the lead actors and decent humour salvage the movie to a certain extent. On the whole, Jodi Breakers is not as good as it could have been.
