Continuing with the trend of dubbing films in Telugu, this week saw the release of 143 Hyderabad. Based on the story of psycho killer, this film managed to get good response in Tamil. Directed by Anand Chakravarthy, this film also stars Jagan and Lakshmi Nayar in other lead roles. Music has been composed by Selva Ganesh and this thriller which is inspired from a Hollywood film, has hit the screens today. Let’s see how it is.
The movie is based on a group of five friends who decide to go on a holiday trip to Goa. On the way to Goa one of the friends Priya(Lakshmi Nayar)an archeologist suggests that they should visit a ancient temple as it would be auspicious to start their trip and will also help her archeological studies. All the friends say yes to her suggestion and head towards the temple.
On their way, an unexpected incident occurs and the whole group falls into deep trouble. As they try to escape form this situation, one after the other friends starts getting killed by an unknown psycho killer. Who is this killer? Why is he killing everyone? Does any one survive his evil torture? That forms the rest if the story.
Among all the performances, Anand Chakravarthy and Dhansika steal the lime light. Both their roles are very good and emotions portrayed by Dhansika in particular was very good. Some of the thrills that have been showcased in the second half are highly interesting and well shot. Though an inspired script, the way 143 Hyderabad has been handled is worth a mention. The suspense and emotions have been captured well by the director.
First half in very routine as the characters have only been introduced . The main story takes some time to register and is also hindered by some cheesy double meaning dialogues. Placement of songs goes haywire as back to back songs keep coming only to hinder the flow of the film. The suspense that was created from the start of the second half is bogged down by a predictable climax. Some scenes lack continuity and have been rushed upon.
The way director Anand Krishna has handled the second half is worth a mention. He has captured the thrilling elements particularly well and managed to hold the audience for most of the film. If the director would have kept the movie crisp and would not have added the so called commercial elements, 143 Hyderabad would have been a far better film. Camerawork is apt especially in the thrilling moments. Background score by Selva Ganesh is good in most of the scenes.
On the whole, 143 Hyderabad is good only in bits and pieces. Stunning second half and some thrilling elements are sure shot plus points. A lack luster first half and some dragged out scenes spoil the fun. If you have patience to sit through the painful first half, 143 Hyderabad can be given a shot.
