The Mirzapur story is now making the jump from the small screen to the big screen with Mirzapur: The Movie. The much-awaited crime action drama is gearing up for a theatrical release on September 4, 2026, including in Telugu. With the popular streaming franchise making its cinema debut, expectations are naturally high.
The film has now become a talking point over its CBFC certification and mandated cuts. As expected, Mirzapur: The Movie has received an ‘A’ certificate, with the censor board ordering a total reduction of 35 seconds across two intimate scenes in the first and second halves.
Several cuss words, abusive expressions and dialogue terms have also been muted or replaced, while a caste reference was modified. Interestingly, the violent and gory portions have been left untouched. Despite the cuts, the certified theatrical version has a lengthy runtime of 197 minutes and 19 seconds – 3 hours, 17 minutes and 19 seconds.
Helmed by Gurmeet Singh and backed by Excel Entertainment in association with Amazon MGM Studios, the film features Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyenndu, Rasika Dugal and Shweta Tripathi Sharma in key roles. With the franchise making its big-screen debut, its theatrical response is now keenly awaited. Advance bookings will open across the nation tomorrow.
