Young and talented actor Aadi Saikumar will be next seen in Top Gear, which will hit the screens on 30th December. Riya Suman plays the leading lady in this action thriller directed by K Shashikanth. K. V. Sridhar Reddy is producing the film under the banner of Sri Dhanalakshmi Productions, and Aditya Movies & Entertainments is presenting it. Harshavardhan Rameshwar is the music composer. Ahead of the release, we interacted with Aadi, and here is the transcript.

How will the film be?

The film is a racy thriller. Director Shashikanth actually narrated two stories, one of which is a political thriller. I thought Top Gear’s plot aptly suits me, which is about a cab driver who lands in trouble. So what if the small issue turns into a huge one? This forms the film’s crux. The story will happen in one day.

What’s the reason to have Top Gear as the title?

We didn’t decide on the title before commencing the shoot. However, the entire team felt Top Gear would be an apt title when it was suggested. Also, the protagonist must switch to top gear when the situations demand. We also felt the Top Gear title to be stylish.

Do you have thoughts about doing mass films again?

The very definition of mass changed after KGF was released. These days people aren’t showing interest in watching regular mass films. Either the narration or the plot needs to be different. We are inclined to watch movies with English flavor. I have come across a powerful script that isn’t a regular one.

Can you tell us about the action part?

Prithvi is an excellent fight master who got a significant break with Romantic. He designs fights according to the plot. So the film’s action part will be very natural, and there will be an amount of struggle in the fight sequences. He took proper care while filming risky scenes.

Do you feel like attempting different films?

I would love to. I am interested in doing unique films, and Top Gear falls in this category. Also, I am doing a web series for ZEE5, the setup of which will definitely amaze you. It is an experimental venture. Though many filmmakers are approaching me with commercial subjects, I am keen on doing realistic films which have commercial viability.

What’s your take on the theatrical business and OTT market?

My films are doing well on digital platforms, and the theatrical business is not impressive due to a few unfavorable conditions. My previous flick Sashi got good openings but didn’t continue the momentum. It did good on OTT, though. Also, my Crazy Fellow was received well on OTT. Kantara was released a day after Crazy Fellow and had a huge effect.

What are your upcoming projects?

I am doing a film for Lucky Media, and the story has really come out well. It will be helmed by a new director. I am in talks with other directors too. My web series Puli Meka is done with the shoot. Kona Venkat is bankrolling it, and Gopichand’s Pantham director Chakravarthy is directing it. It will be no less than a film with eight episodes, and I am very confident about it.
