Legendary director Singeetam Srinivasa Rao is coming up with his most prestigious project, Sing Geetham. The film is produced by Nag Ashwin under the prestigious banners Vyjayanthi Movies and Swapna Cinema. Ayaan, Ahalya Bamroo, and Shalini Kondepudi play key roles in the film, while Rockstar Devi Sri Prasad has composed the music. The teaser and songs have received a positive response, and the film is set for a worldwide theatrical release on June 11. On this occasion, Nag Ashwin interacted with the media and shared insights about the film.
How did the journey of Sing Geetham start?
It started with Singeetam garu only. For a long time, he wanted to work on this story. He actually narrated this idea to Kamal Haasan garu even before Pushpaka Vimanam. But it didn’t take off for some reason, and finally it materialized now.
You could have done the film with big stars. Why did you choose newcomers?
The casting was purely Singeetam garu’s choice. He wanted to work with the new generation. Not just actors, but he wanted new technicians as well. He gets a lot of excitement working with newcomers. Also, the movie happens in a unique world. If stars act in this film, their image will become an issue. With new actors, the audience will naturally connect to the film’s world.
Is Sing Geetham against the gold backdrop?
Singeetam garu told me this story after Mahanati. It is a fictional story set in Kuberapuram, known for its gold mines. The connection with the goldmines was told in Singeetam garu’s signature style and trademark humor. Whatever story Singeetam garu chooses, he makes sure it has humanity and humor elements.
What’s your reaction to Singeetam garu’s working style?
The writing and rehearsal process will be so long. We spent nine months only on writing. Singeetam garu is a spontaneous person. If he doesn’t like something that he himself did, he changes it instantly. He accepts his mistakes, and I learned that quality from him.
Will this film appeal to youth?
Definitely. The dialogues in the film are presented as songs, but after somtime people will forget about it. They will travel into the film’s world deeply. I have watched the post-production works so closely. Every scene will be so entertaining.
As a new generation director, did you provide any inputs?
At times, I keep getting the doubt if I am a new-age director (laughs). But even at 94 years of age, Singeetam garu is a new-age director. You will feel as if some teenager made this film.
