Ace filmmaker Puri Jagannadh is currently busy directing Varun Tej’s upcoming film, Loafer. On the eve of his birthday tomorrow(Sep 28th), we caught up with him for a brief interview. Let’s see what he has to say.
Q) Tell us briefly about Loafer ?
Loafer is an emotional drama which is based on mother sentiment. This is the first time after Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi I am doing a film which has strong sentiment.
Q) What is the latest update about the film’s progress?
The shooting part is nearing completion. Recently, we wrapped up the Goa schedule . The release date will be announced soon.
Q) Tell us about the lead pair in the film ?
Both Varun and Disha Patanai will go places in their respective careers. Varun done a superb job and his innocent face expressions will be the major highlight in the film. I am confident that Varun Tej will become a star hero in future.
Q) Is the title ‘Loafer’ apt for this film ?
We felt that ‘Loafer’ is perfectly apt for our story and hero’s characterization. After watching some scenes in the film, C.Kalyan and Ram Gopal Varma suggested me to change the title. Currently, we are considering some other titles which could retain the essence of Loafer.
Q) What happened to your project with Chiranjeevi garu ?
He was impressed with the first half of my script, but didn’t spoke a word to me after hearing out the second part. Instead, he announced in the media that he was not satisfied with the script. I would have made necessary changes had he informed me. Even now, I am ready to do a film with him
Q) Your comment on the current market for Telugu films ?
The business for Telugu films has been improving by leaps and bounds after every industry hit. Recently, Baahubali and Srimanthudu gave a further boost to the market and there are a lot of advantages for all those who are dependent on the industry.
Q) Are you planning any films with shoestring budget ?
At present, low budget films are finding it hard to survive. They are not even fetching a decent price for their satellite rights. I will surely think about them in the future.
Q) What is your next project ?
My next film is with ‘Mahatma’ producer CR. Manohar’s nephew, Ishant. The film is a bilingual which will be shot simultaneously in Telugu and Kannada. It will commence in November.
Q) What about your film with Mahesh Babu ?
I already locked the script and Mahesh Babu also gave the nod to the project. I am waiting for his dates and will start working with him very soon. I am also planning to do a film with Allu Arjun.
