Mahesh Babu’s Sarkaru Vaari Paata is up for a grand release on May 12, 2022. On this occasion, we met with the movie’s choreographer Sekhar Master for a brief interview. Here is the transcript.

How many songs did you choreograph in this film?
I have composed three songs – Kalaavathi, Penny and another mass song. Two songs have already impressed his fans and the upcoming song will showcase Mahesh Babu’s swag and mass. His signature moments are a major highlight in the song.

Working experience with Mahesh Babu?
Mahesh Babu is a quick learner. I have already worked with him for three songs in Sarileru Neekevvaru. He has an amazing rhythm in his body and all we need to do is to understand his body language. He always looks out for perfection and working with him is a wonderful experience. You will see a new Mahesh in this movie and I will give him 100 marks for his dance.

Challenges you face while choreographing hit tracks?
Nowadays, the trend has changed. Many songs have become hits in Instagram Reels if they have easy steps. So, we need to focus on such things and have to choreograph such unique moments. Penny song has become famous in the same way and the upcoming mass song also has many unique steps.

Who did Kalaavathi best – Mahesh Babu or Sitara?
Both did it very well. Sitara has great energy and grace in her movements. Unfortunately, Sitara won’t be there in Penny song in the main film. She is only limited to the online song.

Do you compose moments according to the hero’s body language?
The tune of the song is my priority. I consider the hero’s body language next and compose moments according to his style.

Do you give any inputs besides composing dance?
Choreography is not only meant to compose dance. We have a great responsibility to design a song in a lovely way. Besides movements, we sometimes suggest the properties and costumes according to the theme of a song. In SVP, I suggested Sitars in Kalaavathi song and the director said okay and shoot the song using them.

What’s the choreographer’s role in the success of a song?
Choreography plays a key role in the success of a song. But, the song will become a sensational hit only if the track and dance moments are extremely good.

What’s your dream?
My dream to choreograph for Chiranjeevi and Prabhu Deva had happened and right now, my dream is to compose moments for Pawan Kalyan and to work for Rajamouli’s movie. Also, I have no plans to direct movies.

Is there anything like Pan-India choreography?
The Pan-India label has nothing to do with choreography. For instance, Top Lechipoddi song was performed by many people worldwide. Puspha moves also became a sensation worldwide. If the choreography is unique and moments are catchy then any song will attract people worldwide.

Future projects?
At present, I am working for Mega 154 and Dhamaka. I have Simbu and Siva Kartikeyan movies in Tamil. I have many crazy projects in the pipeline. I will announce them in the coming days.
