Mahanati is one film which has created a superb buzz for itself. Swapna Dutt and Priyanka Dutt produce this film on their home banner and on the occasion of the film’s release, we caught up with them for a brief interview. Here is the transcript.

How has the film turned out?

We just saw a special screening of the film yesterday and the movie has turned out quite well. I hope that this film will surely leave a mark in the industry and will set the tone right for more biopics.

What was the first reaction when NagAshwin told you about the film?

It took us quite some time to gaze as to how he is going to make such a film. Nag was very clear that Savitri would be his second film after Yevade and as planned, he wrote the film and executed it in a great manner.

Whose idea was it to cast Keerthy Suresh as Savitri?

We went through a lot of girls and did a lot of auditions. This was the time when Nag suggested Keerthy’s name. As she was a relatively new actress, it took us a lot of time to believe that she could actually pull it off. Now that we have seen the output, she has done a wonderful job.

What kind of research went into the making of the film?

We went through all kinds of sources from videos to books and several other data on the net. We met her kids, took info from them and all those who knew much stuff about Savitri helped us a lot during the scripting stages.

How did Savitri’s kids react after watching the film?

Their excitement seemed no boundaries and they became very emotional after the screening of the film. They have helped us a lot during the making of the film too.

About Nag Ashwin’s direction?

Nag is one passionate director who always has a grand vision. All his stories have a lot of emotion and with Savitri, he will arrive in a big way in Tollywood.

What kind of films are you planning to make in the future?

Our aim is to make quality cinema in the future. We do not work for box office success but will make films that will be remembered for a long time to come.
