Star actress Samantha is back to enthrall the audience with her film Yashoda which is scheduled for a grand release on November 11th. Unni Mukundan, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, and Rao Ramesh are acting in pivotal roles in this action thriller. Produced by Sri Devi Movies, the movie is helmed by Hari and Harish. Mani Sharma is the music composer. Ahead of the release, we met with Varalaxmi Sarathkumar for a brief interaction. Here is the transcript.

What was your reaction when you heard Yasoda’s plot?

I was shocked and asked the team how they penned such a plot and characters. My character would be so calm, according to the trailer. But when the story moves forward in the film, there will be a lot of revelations, and I did a role with grey shades. The relation between Samantha’s role and mine will be exciting.

What factors impressed you to do this project?

Along with Samantha’s character, my character will also run parallel to this story. Samantha’s role requires a person as per the plot, and that is when my role comes into the picture. There would be two different plots, and the film is about how these are interconnected. This is a science fiction film, and I can say I am playing the second lead in Yasoda.

A few words about the directors Hari and Harish?

Both are very calm, and I haven’t seen such calmness in the directors I worked with. I didn’t see them shouting at people. They did a lot of research to develop each character. Women can relate to themselves while watching the movie. That’s how they designed the characters.

There is a discussion about surrogacy in India. How will the story be?

Surrogacy isn’t very complicated, and the discussions started because a few actors are opting for it. People who can’t have a child might be relieved by choosing surrogacy. This topic is just a part of the story, and the movie is entirely fictional.

How was the working experience with Samantha?

I have known Samantha for about 10-12 years. We got to know each other well in Chennai. She has very serious scenes in the film, but I used to crack jokes during shoot gaps. She would question me why I would make fun just before a shot. It was fun working with Samantha. She is a strong woman and lived in her role in the film.

You have got a good following in Telugu. A few words about Telugu audience?

After my Jayamma role in Krack, I am getting good roles. Writers are penning characters exclusively for me. I am currently doing more films in Telugu, and I am not finding time to go outside. I don’t have dates to do Tamil movies as, well. I am not getting stereotyped roles, and I am happy about that.

About your future films?

I am doing the lead role in the Telugu film Shabari. My character would be crazy in Veera Simha Reddy. Also, I have a few more projects in my kitty.
