Ever since the tragic passing of Bollywood star Sushant Singh Rajput, there has been a non-stop debate on nepotism and favoritism in the film industry. Several ‘outsider’ actors who have no background or godfathers in the industry have been opening up about how difficult it is to get a role that can change their fortunes.
Recently, talented actress Shraddha Das, who was seen in numerous Telugu, Hindi and Bengali movies, opened up about the difficulties outsiders face in grabbing the right opportunities. She said that without background, actors like her have to give thousands of auditions for getting one miniscule role in a movie which gets reduced further and not even promoted while the person with background gets it straight away and is provided with an army of the best staff from day one.
Shraddha went on to say that it is next to impossible and very difficult for most actors without background to even contact or reach out to star filmmakers or even get an opportunity to audition for their movies. “The ones with a background get a red carpet welcome from day one,” Shraddha added. Well, here’s hoping that the industry and the bigwigs change their ways at least now and give the struggling outsiders what they rightly deserve.
