Bollywood Action Superstar Sunny Deol’s new film Batwara 1947 is struggling at the ticket windows. The film, set against the backdrop of the 1947 Partition, had a poor first weekend, and today’s trend has sealed its fate.
After a low start on Day 1, the movie registered an impressive jump in collections on Saturday, attributed to the Independence Day holiday. However, the trend didn’t last long, with the movie dropping heavily on Sunday. The first weekend collections are around Rs. 25 crores nett, which is extremely disappointing for a film backed by Aamir Khan and headlined by Sunny Deol.
Monday occupancies are dismal, and it will need a miracle for the film to make a turnaround, which is unlikely given the mixed talk. The clash with Awarapan 2 mostly sidelined Batwara 1947’s visibility, and not-so-favorable word of mouth further affected its prospects. Rajkumar Santoshi directed the movie, while Preity Zinta played the female lead.
