It seems Ranbir Kapoor’s mega-blockbuster Animal will not arrive anytime soon on OTT. Going into the details, Cine Studios 1, who claim to be the co-producers of the film filed a legal suit against Netflix and T-Series. Cine Studios 1 states they are entitled to a 35% profit share and intellectual property rights. They argue that they are not given their share in the revenue.
Hence, the plaintiff (Cine Studios 1) requested to halt the film’s digital release. T-Series argues that they made a payment of 2.6 crores, but the plaintiff states the documents proving the financial payment might be fraudulent. Today, the Delhi High Court summoned T-Series and Netflix India to respond to the allegations made by the plaintiff. The defendants (T-Series and Netflix) are given time to submit their affidavits.
Also, the court has granted liberty to Cine Studios 1 to file a replication within 15 days of receiving the affidavits from the defendants. The bench has directed the parties to file their replies by January 20. The next hearing is scheduled on January 22. Initially, the digital release of Animal was said to be planned on January 26, but now it depends on the court’s order.
