Avatar Fire and Ash collections: Hollywood biggie fails to ignite the Telugu box office

Hollywood biggie Avatar: Fire and Ash hit the big screens today across the world. The visual spectacle directed by James Cameron didn’t generate much hype from the beginning, and this is getting reflected in the opening-day numbers.

Avatar: The Way of Water opened to packed houses in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, and it went on to amass over Rs. 100 crore gross in its lifetime. However, the excitement is clearly missing among Telugu patrons for the third chapter, as the occupancies are below par for the opening day.

Avatar: The Way of Water recorded solid footfalls right from the opening day, not just in major cities but also in B and C centres of the Telugu states. But the same is not the case with the third part. The booking trends aren’t looking promising, and we need to see how the sci-fi film fares in the long run.

There also seems to be some fatigue kicking in among audiences, as the franchise’s concept is getting repetitive, with major attention given only to visuals rather than writing.

As Avatar: The Way of Water came 13 years after the first film, it benefited greatly due to the long gap. Since the interval between Part 2 and Part 3 is much shorter, the latter is already facing the heat.
