James Cameron’s latest outing, Avatar: Fire and Ash, took a below-par opening at the Indian box office, with collections dropping by more than 50% compared to Avatar: The Way of Water. In the Telugu states, the film has been struggling right from day one and hasn’t shown any growth over the weekend.

According to the latest update, Avatar: Fire and Ash collected only Rs. 15 crores gross (inclusive of 3D charges) in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana for the first three days, which is extremely poor. The numbers are inclusive of all languages. James Cameron’s Avatar franchise enjoys a phenomenal following in the Telugu states, and the second part went on to gross over Rs. 100 crores in its lifetime.

However, the latest installment failed to generate excitement among the Telugu audiences, resulting in a poor first weekend. Though the visual effects are lauded, Cameron is being criticized for his story. This Christmas season, the Tollywood box office will see multiple new releases, making the situation very tough for the Hollywood biggie.
