Bhavana Studios, the production house behind successful Malayalam films like Premalu and Bethlehem Kudumba Unit, has officially announced its next project, Picnic. The upcoming family comedy drama marks the directorial debut of writer Kiran Josey, who co-wrote both films.

Picnic is produced by Fahadh Faasil, Dileesh Pothan and Syam Pushkaran under the Bhavana Studios banner. After contributing to two films that received a strong response from audiences, Kiran Josey is now stepping into the director’s chair with a story that promises to blend family emotions, comedy and entertainment.

The film features an interesting ensemble cast led by Sandeep Pradeep, with versatile actor Indrajith Sukumaran and National Award-winning filmmaker and actor Dileesh Pothan in prominent roles. Sujina Sreedharan and Akshatha Ajith are also part of the cast. Picnic is positioned as a wholesome family comedy drama aimed at audiences across generations.

The first-look poster offers a colourful glimpse into the world of the film, featuring characters from different generations against a picturesque backdrop of lush green hills and vibrant flower fields. The cheerful visual captures the film’s fun-filled family atmosphere while keeping the story and the characters’ journey intriguing.

Govind Vasantha, who composed music for acclaimed films such as 96 and Sathyam Sundaram, is providing the music for Picnic. With Picnic, Bhavana Studios is looking to expand the reach of its content across the South Indian market. The film will have a simultaneous release in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada, giving it a wider theatrical footprint. The film is slated for a grand worldwide theatrical release on January 14, 2027, during the Sankranthi season.

Strengthening its presence in the Telugu market, prominent production and distribution house Showing Business has joined hands with Picnic for its Telugu theatrical release. The company previously brought Premalu to Telugu audiences, where the film went on to become a major success. Further updates regarding the film are expected to be announced soon.
