The makers of Ram Charan and Shankar’s recently released political drama, Game Changer, have received a rude shock just a day after the film’s release. The Telangana government has withdrawn the G.O. that allowed Game Changer makers to increase the film’s ticket rates across the state.
The Revanth Reddy sarkar has affirmed that the government will no longer facilitate ticket rate hikes and additional shows in the Nizam region. The decision has been made following a High Court order. The HC recently chided the Telangana government for approving the ticket rate hike, benefit shows, and extra shows for Game Changer. The government has stated that it took the stern decision keeping people’s health and safety in consideration.
Before the film’s release, the Telangana government had issued a G.O., allowing a hike of Rs 150 at multiplexes and Rs 100 at single screens across the state. The government had also permitted the 4 AM benefit shows on the opening day. Following the hike, the ticket rates at the multiplexes were capped at Rs 395, while the tickets were sold at Rs 250 at the single screens all over the state.
Telangana government’s latest decision will impact the box office collection of the upcoming Sankranthi festive releases such as Balakrishna’s Daaku Maharaaj and Venkatesh’s Sankranthiki Vasthunnam. Incidentally, Dil Raju, the Chairman of the Telangana Film Development Corporation, is the producer of Game Changer and Sankranthiki Vasthunnam.
