Case Filed Against AR Murugadoss Over Madharaasi Losses; Council Gives Verdict

Director AR Murugadoss faced a complaint from the producer of Madharaasi over financial losses. The issue was taken to the Directors & Producers Council, which reviewed the matter and stepped in to resolve it.

The problem began during the making of Madharaasi, starring Sivakarthikeyan. The film’s budget increased significantly, reportedly due to poor planning and Murugadoss working simultaneously on Sikandar with Salman Khan. This led to delays and higher costs.

The film was initially planned at around Rs. 115 crore but eventually rose to nearly Rs. 180 crore. It earned only about Rs. 100 crore, resulting in major losses. The producer then sought Rs. 10 crore in compensation and filed a complaint.

After reviewing the case, the council arrived at a different solution. Instead of paying money, Murugadoss has been asked to provide the story for Ramana 2, a sequel to his 2002 film Ramana, free of cost.
