After going through a rough phase in recent years, Malayalam actor Nivin Pauly had been largely written off by many. However, he made a strong return with Sarvam Maya, a horror-comedy fantasy directed by Akhil Sathyan.
The film faced stiff competition from Mohanlal’s Vrusshabha but clearly emerged the crowd favorite beginning. Sarvam Maya went on to post impressive numbers, grossing around Rs. 150 crores worldwide. But despite this successful comeback, Nivin Pauly’s new release, Baby Girl, failed to find momentum at the box office and opened to disappointing figures.
The movie is said to have collected just around Rs. 1 crore on its opening day. Malayalam cinema has become completely unpredictable when it comes to box office trends. Even after delivering three consecutive hits, Mohanlal’s Vrusshabha opened to dismal numbers and ended up collecting less than Rs. 2 crores in its lifetime. Now, Nivin Pauly’s Baby Girl also seems to be on the same track.
