Obsession was released on May 29, 2026, as an English horror thriller with no major stars and little name recognition behind it. In contrast, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai (HJTIHH) arrived on June 5, 2026, with familiar Bollywood faces such as Varun Dhawan, Pooja Hegde, and Mrunal Thakur, backed by a strong promotional campaign. On paper, the Bollywood entertainer appeared to have every advantage.

Yet, the audience response tells a very different story. According to BookMyShow trends, Obsession recorded around 86K ticket bookings in the last 24 hours, while Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai managed about 46K. In simple terms, the English horror film is selling almost double the tickets of the Hindi release. That gap becomes even more striking when one considers that Obsession is already in its third week, while Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai is still relatively new in cinemas.

The momentum is not limited to ticket sales alone. Obsession has already crossed Rs.70 crore gross in India, a remarkable feat for a film that was not driven by star power, franchise value, or extensive marketing. Its success has been built largely on positive audience reception and word of mouth, which continue to bring viewers to cinemas.

The comparison offers a simple takeaway. Audiences today seem far more interested in engaging content than in star names or familiar box office formulas. Language is becoming less of a barrier when a film delivers a compelling experience. Whether it is English, Hindi, Marathi, or any other language, viewers are willing to support a movie that connects with them. Obsession’s performance is a strong reminder that content remains the biggest driving force at the box office.
