Disappointing: Indian film Homebound out of the Oscars 2026 race

The latest and disappointing update reveals that the Indian film Homebound is out of the Oscars 2026 race. The film, which was India’s official entry for the Oscars 2026, had earlier secured a spot on the shortlist (15 films) for the Best International Feature Film category. However, it failed to make it to the final nominations.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has now released the official list of Oscar nominees. The five films that made it to the Best International Feature Film nominations list are The Secret Agent (Brazil), It Was Just an Accident (France), Sentimental Value (Norway), Sirat (Spain), and The Voice of Hind Rajab (Tunisia).

Nevertheless, Homebound, backed by Karan Johar, has come a long way and is undoubtedly one of the finest films made in India in recent times. Directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, the film stars Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa, and Janhvi Kapoor in lead roles. The movie explores caste and religious biases in India and follows two friends as they battle these challenges while trying to build their lives. Homebound is currently streaming on Netflix.
