“I’m a Telugu ammayi. I get really affected when people write lines like ‘coming from the North’,” Rakul says. The actress was responding to a question on her identity in Indian cinema where she’s referred as a South Indian actress when she works in Bollywood, and a North Indian when she’s in South Indian film industry.
In the interview, Rakul made it quite clear that she has always been keen on learning the local language right from the day she began acting in Telugu. “After a year or so, I could manage to speak in broken Telugu and then, I improved gradually. Even now, when I am in Mumbai, sometimes I end up talking in Telugu. Sometimes, my friends are surprised that I’ve even started thinking in Telugu. I’m just saying that I’ve embraced Telugu culture whole-heartedly and the industry has made me who I’m today,” she added.
After her recent outing in Hindi, Rakul is back in Tamil cinema with Suriya’s forthcoming film in Selvaraghavan’s direction. Apart from this, she also has a film each with Karthi and Sivakarthikeyan, which will go on floors soon.
