Legendary filmmaker Singeetham Srinivasa Rao passed away last night in Chennai at the age of 95. Known for his distinctive style and the wide range of films he made across his long career, Singeetham remained closely connected to cinema until his final days.
Kamal Haasan, who shared a long and special association with Singeetham, paid his final respects to the filmmaker. The two worked together on several memorable films, including Raja Paarvai, Pushpaka Vimana, Apoorva Sagodharargal and Michael Madana Kama Rajan. Their collaboration went beyond films, growing into a close creative bond over the years.
That bond was also seen recently at the pre-release event of Singeetham’s final directorial film, Sing Geetham. Kamal recalled how Singeetham had narrated a story to him when he was just 20 years old. Decades later, that idea finally made it to the screen, making the film a particularly special chapter in their long association.
Singeetham leaves behind a rich filmography that includes films such as Pushpaka Vimana and Aditya 369, along with several memorable comedies, dramas and experimental works. His passing is a great loss to Indian cinema, but the films he made and the creative relationships he built, especially with Kamal Haasan, will remain a lasting part of his legacy.
