Ticket price hikes have lately become a major issue for the film industry, with the Telangana High Court intervening on multiple occasions. In the latest development, the High Court has issued key directions regarding ticket rate enhancements.
The court has instructed the Home Department to issue permissions for ticket price hikes at least 90 days in advance. Practically, this would be difficult to implement, as release dates in Tollywood change frequently.
Especially the big-ticket entertainers often won’t stick to scheduled release dates, due to delays in shooting and post-production work. With this court order in place, ticket rate hikes may no longer be feasible in the state. It remains to be seen how the industry will respond to this sudden and significant development.
