Madras High Court rejects ban on early film reviews

In a landmark judgment, the Madras High Court has rejected the plea filed by the Tamil Film Active Producers Association, which aimed to curb online film reviews for the first three days post a movie’s theatrical debut.

The court made it clear that imposing such restrictions would violate the fundamental right to freedom of speech and expression.

The verdict is being seen as a major boost for digital media platforms and reviewers. With this, audiences can continue to share their opinions freely without fear of legal repercussions during a film’s initial run.
