A biopic on legendary actress and poet Meena Kumari has been in development for a long time. Often referred to as the ‘Tragedy Queen’ of Hindi cinema, she featured in over 90 films. Siddharth P. Malhotra has been working on this biographical film, titled Kamal Aur Meena. Recent reports suggested that Kiara Advani would headline the project.
However, Siddharth P. Malhotra has clarified that the casting process is still underway and that no actress has been finalized for the role yet. Speaking to Mid-Day, the director said that the team has access to the handwritten love letters and diaries of Meena Kumari and Kamal Amrohi, and that the film is based on nearly 2,000 letters and diary entries.
The biopic is set to chronicle the stormy relationship between Meena Kumari and her husband, filmmaker Kamal Amrohi. The script has been completed, and the makers are looking to take the film on floors by the end of this year. It remains to be seen which actress will step into the shoes of the legendary star.
