Mollywood: Three small films make it big in the last four months
Published on Feb 26, 2023 9:00 pm IST

Mollywood is best known for its quality content. Malayalam filmmakers are among the best when it comes to delivering good content-oriented films on a low budget. In the past four months, the industry saw three humongous hits. The interesting aspect here is all these three are small-budget films. Apart from these, other films in Mollywood failed to attract audiences.

The first on the list is Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey, starring Hridayam fame Darshana Rajendran and director Basil Joseph. The movie, directed by Vipin Das, talks about an essential social element but in a humorous manner without getting preachy. The entertainment factor worked big time, resulting in a stunning reception at the box office.

Next on the list is Malikappuram starring Unni Mukundan, Deva Nandha, and Sreepath in key roles. The film is an action adventure and revolves around a small girl who wishes to go to Sabarimala. When evil forces try to cause problems for the small girl during her journey to the sacred place, Unni Mukundan arrives and becomes the savior. The devotional and emotional touch made the movie rake in a huge moolah. The film is directed by Vishnu Sasi Shankar.

Finally, Romancham starring Soubin Shahir, Arjun Ashokan, Sajin Gopu, Sijju Sunny, and Abin Bino in the lead roles, is the only box office hit for Mollywood this February. Romancham is a comedy horror and is based on real events that happened in the lives of a few bachelors who used a spirit board. When the fun element is rightly mixed with horror, the box office will be on fire, and the same is proved with Romancham. Jithu Madhavan directed this film.
