These days, the revenue model of the film industry has changed significantly. Producers are landing in the safe zone with the non-theatrical rights, but it is the distributors who are bearing the losses if a film doesn’t perform well (Whatever the reason might be). In a recent roundtable interview, producers Naga Vamsi, Dil Raju, and Mythri Ravi Shankar spoke about the same when asked by the interviewer.

Naga Vamsi said, “Any film that brings loss to distributors cannot be termed a hit.” Dil Raju stated, “There are certain categories here. If the producer makes a profit and sells the film to the distributors, we call it a hit. Distributors won’t comment if they lose money, keeping in mind future transactions and relations. Here, we are not wholeheartedly saying that the film is a success.

Dil Raju continued, “Consider this aspect. I might lose money on a project and sell it to a distributor. The distributor might have earned a profit. We still call it a successful film, too. Consider Balagam, Mad, and Sankranti releases Waltair Veerayya and Veera Simha Reddy. These films fetched profits for producers and distributors, and ultimately, the audience was also happy. They are genuine superhits.”
