Super Subbu is Netflix’s maiden Telugu original series. The show is headlined by Sundeep Kishan and is directed by Mallik Ram of Tillu Square fame. The comedy-drama is scheduled for release on July 2 in multiple languages. Today, the makers launched the trailer, and it is super entertaining.
Subbu’s (Sundeep Kishan) father, played by Murali Sharma, makes his school-going son wear a band to prevent him from having thoughts related to lust. Years later, Subbu is seen working as a temporary staff member in a government school. He keeps pushing for permanent status in his job, but destiny has other plans. To his shock, Subbu is sent to Maakipur as a sex education teacher, a place where the average fertility rate is higher than the country’s average.
Subbu arrives there and starts creating awareness among the villagers about consent and the problems associated with overpopulation. Due to the nature of his job, Subbu faces the wrath of the men in Maakipur, who chase the protagonist.
The concept looks very interesting and has ample scope for fun. Given the subject, the show appears to have a social message. Sundeep Kishan looks good in what can be described as a refreshing attempt. The rural setting looks authentic. Going by the trailer, Sundeep Kishan and Netflix seem to have a winner on their hands.
Produced by Rajiv Chilaka and Bharath Laxmipati under the Chilaka Productions banner, Super Subbu also stars Mithila Palkar, Brahmanandam, Sampoornesh Babu, Hyper Aadi, Getup Srinu, Manasa Chaudhary, and Raghu Babu in key roles.
