Parking fee ban stayed: Big relief for Telangana theatre owners

The Telangana High Court has stayed an earlier order that prevented single-screen and standalone theatres from collecting parking fees, offering temporary relief to theatre owners across the state.

Senior advocates S. Niranjan Reddy and Sirgapoor Sahil Reddy, representing theatre owners, argued that the initial order was passed without hearing the affected parties. They emphasized that such a blanket restriction was unfair to exhibitors.

After reviewing the arguments, the High Court observed that the original petition was filed against parking charges at a specific theatre. Hence, the suspension of the government order should apply only to that particular property.

As a result, all single-screen theatres in Telangana are now permitted to collect parking fees, with the exception of Asian Konark Theatre, where the restriction will continue for now.
