Kochadaiiyaan is a 2014 Tamil film starring Rajinikanth and directed by Soundarya Rajinikanth. It was produced by J. Murali Manohar under the Media One Global Entertainment banner. The film was made using motion capture technology and required extensive post production work. During the final stages, the production side took financial support from an advertising and media company to complete and release the film. That funding later became the source of a legal dispute.

In 2014, money was borrowed for post production and release needs. As part of repayment, the producer’s side issued cheques. One cheque bounced. The lender then filed a cheque dishonour case in court. After several years of hearings, a trial court convicted the producer and ordered him to pay compensation. It also imposed a short jail term. The producer challenged this verdict in the Madras High Court.

In the latest development, the Madras High Court directed the producer to pay about Rs. 2.52 crore within the time given by the court. The court said that if he does not pay within that deadline, the jail sentence from the cheque bounce case can be enforced. The matter is about pending payments linked to the film’s production, not about the film’s content or box office result.
