Rajinikanth’s much-awaited Thalaivar 173 has finally received its official title – Dharman. The film stars the Superstar in the titular role, while Kamal Haasan is producing it under Raj Kamal Film International (RKFI). The project also marks a career-defining opportunity for Dragon fame Ashwath Marimuthu, who gets to work with two of Kollywood’s biggest legends at once.
Interestingly, Dharman will see Rajinikanth play a doctor for the first time in his illustrious career spanning over five decades. The film’s pooja ceremony was held today, officially launching the project.
Amid widespread speculation about the storyline, Ashwath Marimuthu clarified that Dharman is not based on Tamil Nadu’s famous “Rs. 5 Doctor.” Dismissing the rumours, the director revealed that Rajinikanth’s character is a swag-filled doctor who will entertain audiences with his style, charisma, and mass appeal. He further described the film as a highly entertaining family-oriented thriller, adding, “I love Rajini sir’s Padayappa and I love Kamal sir’s Vettaiyaadu Vilayaadu.”
With the rumours put to rest, Ashwath also confirmed that regular shooting will commence tomorrow. Raashi Khanna and Simran play key roles in the film, while Anirudh Ravichander is composing the music. The film is being jointly produced by Raj Kamal Film International (RKFI) and Turmeric Media.
