In an interesting move, a group of 23 single-screen theatres in Telangana will follow a new system for screening films starting April 3, 2026, as per a circular issued by the Telangana State Film Chamber of Commerce. These theatres have decided to move away from the rental system and adopt a percentage-based revenue model.
Under this new system:
Week 1: 60% share
Week 2: 50%
Week 3: 40%
After that, films will continue based on performance
Reason Behind the Change
The decision was taken after theatre owners raised concerns about rising operational costs and the difficulty of sustaining the rental model. Most distributors have agreed to this change, and the new system will initially be implemented in these 23 theatres.
There is a possibility that this model could be extended to more single-screen theatres across Telangana in the future. The move is aimed at helping theatres manage costs better while continuing regular film screenings.
