In a shocking turn of events in Kollywood, National Award winning director Sudha Kongara has moved the Madras High Court over an alleged non payment of Rs. 8.39 crore towards her writing and directing remuneration for Parasakthi, which was released during the Sankranthi 2026 season.
The petition names the film’s lead producer, Aakash Baskaran, along with others associated with his banner, Dawn Pictures. Acting on Sudha’s plea, the Madras High Court has passed an interim order restraining the producers from proceeding with Parasakthi’s satellite television release and related commercial transactions until July 8, 2026.
Sudha Kongara has also sought to restrain the theatrical release of Dawn Pictures’ next production, Idhayam Murali, slated to hit cinemas on July 10, 2026. Starring Atharvaa, Kayadu Lohar, Preity Mukhundhan, Fahadh Faasil and Thaman, the film could face uncertainty if the court grants the relief sought, potentially placing the producers under significant financial pressure.
Beyond recovering her pending dues, the filmmaker has projected the case as a larger battle against contractual uncertainty and the persistent pay disparity faced by women directors in the Indian film industry.
