The upcoming Sankranthi festive releases will be facing a huge setback at the box-office. The Andhra Pradesh government today introduced a new bill in the state assembly that bans benefit shows, extra shows and even ticket hikes. Furthermore, all the movie tickets will be sold only through a government portal.
AP Cinematography minister Perni Nani has said that the government will bring in a hassle-free and cost-effective ticketing system that will not burn the pockets of poor and middle-class families. The minister also said that Tollywood producers, distributors and exhibitors have welcomed the government’s decision to introduce online ticketing system. As many as 1,100 theaters across the state will come under this new portal.
Perni Nani further added that there is a huge mismatch in the revenue generated at the box-office collections and the taxes being paid in turn. “Tickets are being sold in black for Rs 2,000 to exploit people’s craze. Our portal will bring in transparency in tickets sale. At least 6 to 8 additional shows are being illegally screened at cinemas. The new bill will end this menace,” the minister added. Tollywood’s reaction on the AP government’s new bill is being keenly awaited.
