In a recent roundtable meet, actress Sriya Reddy, who recently shined in Prabhas’ Salaar, said she didn’t understand Ponniyin Selvan. Sriya added that she found the film to be confusing. Shobu Yarlagadda, the producer of Baahubali, said that if he were the producer of Salaar, he would have prepared the audience beforehand by introducing the world of the film.
Shobu Yarlagadda opines that it is essential for filmmakers to make the audiences understand what to expect from a film so that they can enjoy the proceedings. This is when Sriya said she didn’t understand Ponniyin Selvan. Shobu said, “If you present the world before and say that these are the characters and this is what you will see in the movie, the audience will connect well with the characters. There is nothing wrong in it.”
Shobu added that it is not necessary to give out the whole story, but it will be good enough if characters are introduced. Sai Dharam Tej, who was also present in this roundtable discussion, noted that his Virupaksha team did a character introductory event much before the release with the character names and the outfits they wear in the film.
