Having shared the screen in films including Ghajini, Aadhavan, and Massu Engira Masilamani, Suriya and Nayanthara are now headed for a box office clash. Their upcoming films, Vishwanath & Sons and Hi, are both slated for theatrical release on August 14, 2026.
Suriya’s Vishwanath & Sons had already claimed the August 14 release slot. The makers of Nayanthara’s Hi joined the race by announcing the same date, setting up an Independence Day weekend showdown.
Directed by Vishnu Edavan, a former assistant to Lokesh Kanagaraj, Hi stars Kavin alongside Nayanthara in a romantic comedy. The supporting cast includes K. Bhagyaraj, Radikaa Sarathkumar, Prabhu, VTV Ganesh, Sathyan, and Amrutha Srinivasan. The film is jointly produced by Rowdy Pictures, 7 Screen Studio, and Zee Studios.
Meanwhile, Vishwanath & Sons is billed as a heartwarming family drama starring Suriya and Mamitha Baiju. With two established stars headlining films in different genres, the Independence Day weekend is shaping up to be one of Tamil cinema’s most intriguing box office battles.
