Thalaivar 173 marks the long-awaited reunion of Tamil cinema’s two biggest icons, Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth. While the Superstar takes center stage on screen, Kamal Haasan will be backing the project as producer under the Raaj Kamal Films International banner.
The highly anticipated film has witnessed several developments behind the scenes since its announcement. Initially set to be directed by Sundar C, the project later moved to Don fame Cibi Chakravarthi before undergoing another creative reshuffle.
The wait has now ended, with the makers officially announcing Dragon and Oh My Kadavule director Ashwath Marimuthu as the film’s director. The announcement was made through a special birthday video released by the production house, instantly sending fans into a frenzy.
The development has generated significant excitement, with many believing the young filmmaker now carries the enormous responsibility of directing a project associated with two of South Indian cinema’s most celebrated names.
Produced by Raaj Kamal Films International, the film will feature music by Anirudh Ravichander. Though an official release date is yet to be announced, Thalaivar 173 is currently locked to arrive in theaters during Pongal 2027.
