The Paradise is steady at the box office despite criticism from a section of audiences. In a post-release interview released today, Nani and director Srikanth Odela discussed the film and addressed one of its most trolled moments, where the heroine’s mother calls Kayadu Lohar’s character Subbu a “single-take artist.”
The dialogue received criticism because the scene felt abrupt to many viewers. Srikanth Odela explained that the line was actually meant to be an ironic realisation. Subbu had the acting talent that her mother had dismissed during her childhood.
However, the backstory that explained this emotion was trimmed from the film to maintain the runtime. Because that setup was missing, the dialogue did not have the intended impact and was understood differently by many viewers.
Nani agreed with the director and said that when an important setup is removed during editing, even a well-written payoff can be misunderstood by the audience.
Meanwhile, The Paradise is on course to cross the Rs. 150 crore gross mark by the end of its first weekend. Sudhakar Cherukuri produced the film, while Anirudh Ravichander composed the music.
