Theatres to shut down in Telugu states – Ram Charan’s Peddi the only ray of hope

In a shocking development, theatres across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have voluntarily decided to shut down operations temporarily starting today, citing the complete lack of notable releases. The lack of planning in Tollywood has affected single screens the most, with theatres in B and C centers struggling to recover operational expenses.

In urban centers, too, the situation is not looking good, with cinema halls managing to play only one or two shows per day. There isn’t even a single notable film from Tollywood the entire month, and the struggles will continue for the exhibition sector.

Generally, the summer season is one of the lucrative windows for the theatrical business, but Tollywood has successfully wasted the last three Summers citing IPL. The only ray of hope for exhibitors and distributors now is Ram Charan’s Peddi, which carries strong buzz and is expected to revive the struggling theatrical business.

The sports action drama directed by Buchi Babu Sana is carrying huge stakes, and the trade is optimistic that the Ram Charan starrer will end the drought of Tollywood. If Buchi Babu can deliver promising content, then we will witness a box office storm this June.
