Pawan Kumar, who earned rave reviews for his films like U Turn and Lucia, has been signed up as one of the directors for an upcoming Netflix series, Leila. Acclaimed filmmaker Deepa Mehta, and Shankar Raman are also directing few episodes for the series.
According to an official statement from Netflix, Leila, which is based on a book by Prayaag Akbar, tells the story of Shalini, a free-thinking woman in search of the daughter she lost upon her arrest 16 years earlier. The story is set in the near future, and it dabbles with themes like longing, faith and loss.
Huma Qureshi is one of the lead actors in the series, and it is also the first time that she is working on a Netflix show. Interestingly, Pawan Kumar is the third filmmaker from South India to be signed for a Netflix series, apart from Deva Katta and Praveen Sattaru who are directing Baahubali : Before the Beginning series.
