Vidhu Vinod Chopra – My wife Anupama Chopra told me to release 12th Fail on OTT

12th Fail, starring Vikrant Massey and Medha Shankar, is a stupendous blockbuster at the box office. The movie, which was made with a budget of around 20 crores, went on to collect more than 70 crores gross at the worldwide box office. In India, the movie earned about 57 crores nett. 12th Fail is based on the real-life stories of IPS Officer Manoj Kumar Sharma and IRS Officer Shraddha Joshi.

The biographical drama completed 100 glorious days, and a grand success event was held on this occasion. During the successful meet, movie director and producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra revealed a shocking detail. He said, “When we were about to release 12th Fail, everyone, including my dearest wife Anupama Chopra (a renowned film critic), advised me to release it on OTT. ”

Vidhu Vinod Chopra further said, “Everyone told me that 12th Fail will not work in theatres. They said no one would come to theatres to watch Vikrant. A few business agencies said 12th Fail will collect 2 lakhs on its first day and 30 lakhs in its lifetime. The movie would have taken a low opening, but look at where we are today.”

In the event, Anupama Chopra said, “Yes, I told him (Vidhu Vinod Chopra) not to release the movie in theatres. I thought no one would watch films like 12th Fail in theatres. I am absolutely wrong, and my husband is right.” 12th Fail proved that a film with no stars can do wonders if it can strike a chord with the viewers.
