With all the hype, can Maharshi break Rangasthalam’s record?

Superstar Mahesh Babu’s prestigious silver jubilee film, Maharshi, is all set for a grand worldwide release on May 9. Mahesh has begun promoting the movie along with his co-stars Pooja Hegde and Allari Naresh and director Vamshi Paidipally. Needless to say, the Superstar and the movie’s unit have a herculean task to reach the sky-high expectations.

Maharshi has been made with a whopping budget of over Rs 100 crore. Apart from recovering the huge investments, Maharshi also has a tough challenge to break the existing non-Baahubali lifetime record set by Ram Charan’s Rangasthalam (Rs 120 crores}. Fans and trade circles will be waiting anxiously as Maharshi takes on all the existing box office records, including Mahesh’s current highest grosser Bharat Ane Nenu (Rs 95 crores) and Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Khaidi No 150 (Rs 102 crores).

Given the hype and importance surrounding the film as it marks the 25th film in Mahesh’s career, Maharshi will easily break several day1 and 1st weekend box office records. However, the film’s final performance depends on the reviews and the word of mouth it gets from the premieres and first day first shows. If Maharshi manages to get a unanimous positive response on day 1, Bharat Ane Nenu and Khaidi No 150’s lifetime collections will be in danger. But, whether Maharshi, a socially relevant emotional drama, can eventually surpass the collections of a wholesome entertainer like Rangasthalam remains to be seen.
