Yami Gautam is back with her new film A Thursday. The film is a thriller and is out now on Disney Plus Hotstar. Let’s see how it is.
Story
Naia Jaiswal(Yami Gautam) is a playschool teacher who returns to work after two weeks of leave. Things start on a simple note but suddenly, Naina holds all the 16 kids in her class for ransom and puts crazy demands forward. Who is Nania? Why has she kidnapped the kids? What does she want? That’s the basic story.
Plus Points
Yami Gautam carries the film on her shoulders till the end. Her performance in the pre-climax and climax was very good. This was a very challenging role for Yami and she did it with ease.
The last half an hour of the film is gripping and the manner in which the cops handle the situation is good. The manner in which Dimple Kapadia, Neha Dhupia, and Atul Kulkarni do quite well in their roles.
Minus Points
The film starts off on an interesting note and comes right to the point in no time. But from there, things get slow and bore the audience. The manner in which the prime minister’s angle is brought into the narrative is over the top.
The media angle in the story is also overdone to no extent. The emotions could have been quite better in the middle portions of the film.
Technical Aspects
The BGM of the film is quite gripping and elevates most of the scenes. The editing is sharp and so was the production design. Most of the film happens in a house and the camerawork is good. Coming to the director Bhzad, he has chosen a routine subject and showcased it in a passable manner. But the thrill which the trailer showcased is missed her.
Verdict
On the whole, A Thursday is a kidnap drama that has a good premise. Yami Gautam does a good job with the performance and the last half an hour is exciting. But the middle portions are boring and dragged for no reason. If you are the one who loves thrillers, give this film a shot.
