Emotional love story Aakasam, starring Ashok Selvan, Shivathmika Rajashekar, Aparna Balamurali and Ritu Varma in lead roles, has hit the screens today. Let’s check out how the film is.
Story
Arjun (Ashok Selvan) is an introvert and overthinking person who wants everything to be neat and perfect. He has a habit of reading books and imagines himself as a part of the stories he read. He turns depressive as his wedding gets called off. Doctor gives a couple of diaries to him. He reads two different stories and begins his journey to find out what happened to the characters in the stories. What did Arjun understand in the journey? How did he meet Subhadra (Ritu Varma) on his journey? What happened next? The answers will be found in the main movie.
Plus Points
Director Ra. Karthik comes up with a feel-good love story, Aakasam, that has a different climax. The protagonist Ashok Selvan is impressive as he showcases variations in three different characters.
The leading ladies also justify their roles. Aparna Balamurali impresses everyone with her decent performance and looks. Ritu Varma and Shivathmika deliver their best. The rest of the cast are decent in their respective roles. The actress who played the doctor needs to be appreciated.
Apart from love scenes, some emotional moments stand out in the movie. Gopi Sundar’s background score becomes a boon to the film.
Minus Points
The director has dealt with a nice point that majority of people experience in their lives. But, he failed to narrate it in a gripping way. The filmmaker should have written Arjun’s character more interestingly.
Also, scenes between Arjun-Subhadra make audiences feel the lag. In the meantime, the love track between Veera and Meenakshi could have been treated well and narrated engagingly. Scenes related to Madhi are good but the slow narration makes audiences feel bored over time.
Except for a few scenes in the first half and the internal bang, nothing is intriguing about the film. The director tried to deal with the second half well but a few unnecessary scenes became a hurdle to the flow of the film.
Technical Aspects
The tunes and the background score provided by Gopi Sundar are impressive. They carried the feel throughout the film.Editing is fine but it could have been better.
Vidhu Ayyanna’s cinematography is extraordinary and he showcases nature so beautifully through his lens. Finally, Karthik gains marks as a director but disappoints as a screenwriter. Production values are good.
Verdict
On the whole, Aakasam is a boring love drama as it has slow narration in many parts of the movie. Despite having a few love and emotional scenes, the film fails to impress. If you are okay to watch love stories with slow narration, you can give it a watch.
