Sri Simha Koduri, who gained recognition with his debut crime comedy thriller, Mathu Vadalara, returns with another intriguing crime comedy titled Bhaag Saale. The film has hit screens today. Let’s see how the it is.
Story:
Arjun (Sri Simha Koduri), a middle-class youngster, and Maya (Neha Solanki), a wealthy woman, are deeply in love. Arjun, pretending to be affluent, convinces Maya of his wealth. However, their lives take a twist when Samuel (John Vijay) targets Maya’s family for the rare diamond known as Shaali Shuka Gaja (SSG). As Maya’s family doesn’t possess the diamond, Samuel kidnaps her father, demanding the ring as ransom. In this desperate situation, Maya seeks the aid of her lover Arjun. What unfolds next? Does Arjun manage to find the ring? Who possesses the valuable jewel?Why Samuel is desperate about the ring? Does Samuel ultimately get what he desires? The movie holds the answers.
Plus Points:
Sri Simha Koduri shines once again in the crime comedy genre with Bhaag Saale. The actor delivers a commendable performance, showcasing notable improvements in his comedy and action skills.
John Vijay impresses the audience with his neat performance, displaying excellent comic timing. His portrayal opens doors for him to play more villainous characters in upcoming Telugu films.
Comedian duo Sudarshan and Satya deliver solid performances, tickling the funny bone of the viewers. Rajeev Kanakala, who plays the role of the hero’s father, impresses with his dialogues and acting. The music also plays a significant role in enhancing many scenes.
Minus Points:
The primary drawback lies in the execution of a familiar storyline. Audiences have witnessed similar crime comedy movies for ages. While adopting a routine story isn’t necessarily problematic, a more engaging narration could have made the film stand out. Unfortunately, director Praneeth Bramandapally failed to deliver an immersive movie watching experience.
The first half fares well, offering a decent blend of comedy and action elements. However, the second half lacks proper narration. The inclusion of unnecessary scenes and a sluggish screenplay test the audience’s patience. The director should have devoted more attention to the screenplay.
Neha Solanki looks appealing on screen, but her character has nothing for her to showcase her talent. The director could have written her character more effectively, giving it more depth.
The film could have benefited from an injection of additional comedy scenes. It’s regrettable that the director didn’t fully utilise the immense talents of Harsha Chemudu, Satya, and Sudarshan. With better-developed characters, their performances could have significantly altered the outcome of Bhaag Saale. Supporting characters like Prithvi Raj, Varshini, and Nandini Rai deserved better-written roles.
Technical Aspects:
The director missed the opportunity to narrate a familiar story in an engaging manner. By injecting interesting elements and crafting a more compelling screenplay, the routine story could have been presented in a captivating manner.
The score composed by Kaal Bhairava adds value to the film, elevating several scenes. However, the songs fail to make a lasting impression, with none of them being particularly memorable once the movie ends.
Editor Karthika Srinivas could have trimmed numerous unnecessary scenes in the second hour, improving the overall pacing. Cinematographer Ramesh Kushender’s work is satisfactory, and the production values are fine.
Verdict:
On the whole, Bhaag Saale is a crime comedy thriller with sluggish narration, especially in the second half. Sri Simha Koduri’s performance and some comedy scenes are okay. The poor screenplay in the second half make one feel boredom. It’s better to keep your expectations very low if you still think to watch this film.
