Shiva Kandukuri has now come up with the film Bhoothaddam Bhaskar Narayana. Directed by Purushotham Raaj, the film hit the screens today. Let’s find out how it is.

Story:

The story happens in the Andhra Pradesh – Karnataka border region, where a serial killer murders women and leaves their dead bodies in a forest area. The killer takes the heads of those women along with him. Strangely, no one files a missing case even after these deaths take place. Missing heads and no missing complaints make it tough for Police officials to crack the case. Bhoothaddam Bhaskar Narayana (Shiva Kandukuri), a small-time detective in that area, gives it his all, yet he doesn’t find any clue about the murders. He has a personal connection to these serial killings. What is it? Who is this killer? What is his motto? Why is he taking the heads of the deceased? This forms part of the crux of the film.

Plus Points:

The core point around which the whole movie revolves is pretty exciting. The same is linked to a mythological story and when this gets revealed, the movie turns out to be interesting. The pre-climax and climax portions came out pretty well, and the actor who played the main villain did a wonderful job.

Protagonist Shiva Kandukuri showed ample variation from his previous flick, Manu Charithra. The transformation is pretty good and the actor gets into the skin of the detective role comfortably. Shiva Kandukuri’s performance gets even better as the film reaches its end. Rashi Singh is decent in her role. Others are fine in their respective roles.

The visuals are neat, and they allow us to experience the mysterious vibe present in the film. The art direction and VFX team did a neat job. The small-town setup and the house set during the climax episode are well-designed. The production values are quite good.

Minus Points:

Audiences have become smarter these days, and hence, makers should be very careful, especially while making these whodunit thrillers. When it comes to Bhoothaddam Bhaskar Narayana, it isn’t very tough to guess who the killer is, and due to this, the thrill factor is missing. Once the main twist is revealed, we won’t be shocked. Rather, we will wait to know the reason why the crimes are committed.

Thrillers like these need to have intriguing background score, but the film scores low in this aspect. The depth present in the scenes lacked impact because of the ineffective background score. The sound mixing is very bad and many dialogues are not audible clearly. The revelation of the twist, the mythological references, and the backstory of the killer are narrated through animation. While the visuals are good, the bad sound mixing plays a spoilsport.

The first half looks disoriented as proper flow and continuation are missing between scenes. Attempts were made to infuse comedy at regular intervals, but the humor scenes didn’t land well as intended. The core point holds one’s attention to an extent, though the presentation is not up to the mark.

Technical Aspects:

The songs, as well as the background score, are disappointing. As discussed earlier, bad sound mixing affects the viewing experience. Also, the movie could have done with a short runtime. Goutham. G’s visuals are powerful and contribute to the narrative.

Purushotham Raaj’s direction works in bits and pieces. The core point holds our attention to an extent, though the narrative isn’t great. The technical flaws also hinder the overall impact. The last twenty minutes and a few portions of the investigation are neatly handled.

Verdict:

On the whole, Bhoothaddam Bhaskar Narayana has a fascinating premise, but the narration isn’t great enough to take the film to the next level. The first half looks disjointed as the scenes don’t have a proper connection, but the second half is decent and makes sense. Especially the last few minutes of the film are well executed and offer good thrills. Shiva Kandukuri neatly portrayed the detective role. Had the technical flaws been taken care of, the movie would have been much better. If you are okay with these drawbacks, you can give Bhoothaddam Bhaskar Narayana a try.
