Yet another small film named Korameenu has hit the screens today. It stars Anand Ravi, Shatru, and Harish Uthaman in key roles. Let’s see how it is.

Story:

IPS officer Meesala Raju aka Sitarama Raju (Shatru), who is a nightmare for criminals gets transferred to Vizag from Vijayawada. As soon as he lands in Vizag a few suspicious people shave Meesala Raju’s moustache. While Meesala Raju gets irritated with this, he also gets to know about drug peddling in Jalaripeta done by Karuna (Harish Uthaman), a ruthless individual who controls everything there. Meesala Raju also learns that Karuna developed some differences with his driver Koti (Anand Ravi). Who is this Koti? What are the differences he has with Karuna? What is the role of Meenakshi (Kishori Dhatrak) in this plot? Did Meesala Raju arrest Karuna? Did Meesala Raju find out who shaved his moustache? Watch the film to know the answers.

Plus Points:

The plot of the film is very different from regular ones and the way the characters are established initially is pretty impressive. The whole movie runs majorly runs on three characters, a powerful cop, a ruthless individual, and his driver. These characters are strongly written and the way each of these roles is connected is good.

Harish Uthaman and Shatru are gifted actors and they display all their expertise here in the film. While Harish Uthaman’s role is powerful in the first half, Shatru’s role gets stronger as the film goes forward. Anand Ravi is very natural in the film. He does what is exactly expected out of his role and doesn’t go overboard. There are some subtle elevations given to him which worked well.

The surprise package in the film is Kishori Dhatrak who did a fantastic job as Meenakshi. She doesn’t play a regular heroine and her character has a lot of prominence in the film. The fun portions are decent. The last twenty minutes of the movie are nicely presented and the twists that come here are conceived brilliantly. Others like Jabardasth Emmanuel and Giri are good.

Minus Points:

Though the film has a different plot and unique setup, the proceedings are a tad slow derailing the impact. A few sequences, in particular, bore the audience as they are a bit lengthy. The interesting moments don’t last long and the screenplay could have been crisper to elevate the drama.

A few characters like the single woman who is in search of her husband and a drunkard father could have been showcased even better as consistency is missing in their scenes. The emotional outburst in a crucial scene is missing which could have made more difference.

There are a few good elements touched upon in the movie, but their placement isn’t great as they get overshadowed between important moments. A few scenes don’t have a proper flow making them seem out of place. The graph drops initially in the second half and things get interesting only towards the end.

Technical Aspects:

The music by Anantha Narayanan AG is decent. Special mention to cinematography by Kartheek Koppera for capturing beautiful coastal locations very naturally. The editing team could have trimmed the film’s length slightly. The production values are good.

Anand Ravi himself gave the story, screenplay, and dialogues to the film. He did a very good job in penning a different plot but the narrative needed a few corrections. Director Sripathy Karri does a decent job with the film. But there are a few portions which were underwhelming. Had they been handled well, the movie would have reached a next level. Nevertheless, the director could go a long way if he could work on a few errors.

Verdict:

On the whole, Korameenu is a different film that has its moments at places. All the lead cast did a very fine job and the twists are good. But the problem lies with slow execution and also a few portions could have been dealt better. If one could ignore the slow narration, the film ends up a passable watch this weekend.
